Flood Survivor Gatherings

Community Sessions, led by Anissa Gardner Walz, LMLP

Anyone that experiences a disaster, like the Osawatomie flood, is touched by its effects. Surviving the flood and working through the after math is stressful.  Over time, the stress can lead to feelings of anger, frustration, or sadness.  In some cases, it results in mood swings, short temper, or difficulty balancing everyday life.

People are invited to come discuss their flood experiences, how they are doing now, and what possibilities the future holds.

These sessions are provided free of charge,

as a community service to the adults of Osawatomie.

What has been done by your church this week for flood victims?

Now at least 3 weeks after the flood, we at First Presbyterian  are overwhelmed and deeply grateful for the generous and prayerful response of so many.

·        The First Presbyterian Flood Fund stands ready to assist those victimized by the flood.

·        The Response Team is meeting regularly to make recommendations to our church session and board of Deacons regarding the long term response.

·        13 churches throughout Heartland Presbytery stand ready to help us by adopting families who were affected.

·        Many friends from across the nation have sent letters and gifts of support.

·        Presbyterian Disaster Relief visited our site and has provided us with relief funds.

Ultimately, we are very fortunate that we were flooded by something much more powerful than water.  We are buoyed up by Christian care and commitment to the community.

On behalf of a grateful congregation, we thank you.
